MagTek Credit Card Swiper Configuration and Reset


MagTek card wipers can act either in the device mode or as an adjunct to your keyboard. The former involves install a device with a Windows driver (HID driver), or as a keyboard alternative. When you are trying to use a MagTek card swiper and it does not provide any output, then it may be set in the wrong mode. The following instructions detail how to reconfigure the swiper to act in a different mode.
 

USB Swipe & Insert Reader

This program demonstrates card reading for the USB HID and Keyboard readers. This program also allows a user to send commands that change the devices configuration for both the USB HID and keyboard emulations units. These commands can either be entered manually or downloaded from a user-created list. The source code for this program is also provided to assist developers.

The program can be downloaded from Magtek

Configuration Steps

  1. Download the MSR Demo App from Magtek.com

  2. Run the program and send the swiper configuration commands

  3. Send '02' to save the change

Restoring Defaults


Run the program and then enter the following commands:

This will restore device to factory defaults and it will be turned into an HID mode device
FC 55 AA and then Enter key
02 and then Enter key

If you require keyboard mode device, then follow this code below and it will be completed back to factory defaults:
01 10 01 and then Enter Key
02 and then Enter key

To slow down the data rate:
01 02 10 and then Enter key
02 and then Enter key

 Changing to the Keyboard Mode

  1. 1) Download the MSR Demo App from Magtek.com

  2. 2) Send  the  convert to Kyeyboard code (01 10 01)  to open up the MSR

  3. 3) Send '02' to save the change

Changing to the Device Mode

  1. Download the MSR Demo App from Magtek.com

  2. Send  the  convert to HID code (01 10 00)  to change the setting

  3. Send '02' to save the change
